With each new issue of Mizzou Endeavors I am amazed by the achievements and talents of our students and faculty. The stories in this issue invoke that same reaction.
There are the stories of Anurag Chandran and Emily Waggoner, who are not only leaders on our campus, but have been recognized among other accomplished students around the nation. Anurag has been selected for the Schwarzman Scholarship, which is a new award modeled after the Rhodes Scholarship. Emily, meanwhile, recently earned the Truman Scholarship, which was given to just 58 students nationally this year. They both have impressive stories and we are happy to share them in Mizzou Endeavors.
We also include the story of Simon Tatum, who uses his remarkable art talents to share the history and traditions of his home, the Cayman Islands. Simon was one of 33 students who participated in the inaugural Undergraduate Visual Art & Design Showcase in January and his work was selected for an exhibition award with the Sager | Braudis Gallery in Columbia. The Visual Art & Design Showcase is a new venue created to celebrate the gifts that are seen in the areas of visual art and design at Mizzou. It was a wonderful celebration that was held in Jesse Hall and was highlighted by the opportunity for those on our campus and from around the community to see the exceptional works created by our innovative students.
The list of inspiring students continues with the profiles of Retention Specialist Donovan Bradford, Honors Student Alana Simpson, Undergraduate Researcher Kevin Bird and Service-Learning Volunteer Michael Kelly. These students are a wonderful representation of the students we have at Mizzou. There are over 35,000 students on our campus and they each have a story; I wish we could share every one of them with you.
Mizzou students are driven, smart, innovative and caring. With the help of our insightful faculty and dedicated staff, they are preparing to be leaders in our world. We are proud of our tradition of excellence at MU and we are excited to share these stories with you through Mizzou Endeavors.
GO MIZZOU!
